Located in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula, Sault Ste. Marie has been known as "The Gathering Place" for hundreds of years.
Located within the Soo Locks on Portage Avenue, this park and information center offers visitors to the Sault a tremendous opportunity to experience the engineering marvel that is the Soo Locks.

Numerous displays inside the Center chronicle the construction and the men that made the Locks possible. A thirty-minute movie provides a historical perspective on the need and use of this maritime wonder.

The park grounds themselves are wonderfully manicured with explosions of color from the flower gardens. Numerous artifacts are on permanent outdoor display as well. Observation platforms with closed circuit television monitors announce the coming and going of the Great Lakes freighters. From the platforms, you will be treated to a bird's eye view of the lock system in operation.

You would have to sign on-board as a crewmember to get any closer than this. A beautiful, multi-colored lighted fountain, surrounded by park benches is found here as well. The fountain and lights dance in time to background music providing a pleasant backdrop to this gorgeous park.
